Gold leaf is 3 3/8" x 3 3/8" (85mm x 85mm. A book contains 25 leaves. A book of genuine leaves covers approximately 2 sq. ft.. Surface leaf is loose ina bound book separated by paper sheets. Surface/loose leaf may have slight irregularities. It is often used if the final finish is to be distressed or if double guilding. Glass leaf is of higher quality with fewer irregularities. Patent leaf is adhered to tissue paper by pressure. The leaf is released from the backing tissue when pressure is applied to a sized surface. This is best for outdoor work or guilding on vertical flat surfaces. Not suitable for water guilding. Double gold is 10% to 20% thicker than a manufacturers regular gold leaf.
